Individual Counselling

Steve draws upon successful methods from many models of psychotherapy combining a person-centred approach initially and moving on to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Having an impartial, skilled professional helps release emotional frustration and clear the turmoil of thoughts; enabling a client to discover inner resources, consider new perspectives and take control over situations that once seemed overwhelming or insurmountable.

Counselling is sometimes portrayed as a long drawn out process but often positive changes can be brought about quickly and many clients report a positive impact after just one session.

Tremendous success has been achieved particularly with clients suffering from depression and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is used in order to establish a focused approach that leads to lasting change. CBT helps   change ways of  thinking ("Cognitive") and therefore  ways of behaving("Behaviour)". These changes help clients  feel better quickly and unlike some of the other talking treatments CBT centres on  problems in the 'here and now'  and does not dwell on the past.

The positive effects of CBT are well researched and documented.  Clinical trials suggest that CBT has been successful in addressing various emotional problems. It has been shown, in the short term, to be as effective as medication for the treatment of many non-severe depressive and anxiety disorders including phobias. It is also likely that, longer term, the effects of CBT will continue to protect clients from further illness and people who finish medication may be at greater risk of relapse compared to CBT clients, who have learned principles and strategies to sustain recovery

My clients leave counselling sessions with a much greater understanding of their own needs and with strategies that enable them to cope with future challenges.
